Business is people… not technology.

Business is people. We create companies. We hire people to work together. We create agreements with people to do what we call “business” together as people. Business is not technology… business is people.

At 3C we have a saying…

“Business is nothing more and nothing less than a series of agreements between people”. Ian Barnett, CEO of 3C

Technology is a tool, a facilitator of efficiency and enabler of achievement by humanity and for humanity. Technology currently lacks the ability to consider and manage morality in the creation of new thoughts or “whats next” for life. Currently only people can do that. Technology is not able to create a future for us. We do that.

Our fascination with technology is clouding our perspective of what is most important. It would appear that technology, and a digital future is most important to many. At 3C we are looking at the impact technology is having on humanity. We are noticing a trend we are calling blindly busy – where people are blindly building technology that is intended to advance humanity while missing advancing humanity in reality.

We are seeing businesses focus on integrating technology with the purpose to enhance the business… yet the culture is collapsing. This is because people work with technology and technology can enhance a business… but business is people.

We are seeing Smart Cities being planned from the perspective of data and technology… yet we have a real crisis called loneliness. We are seeing society doing things that people have never done before and an elevated level of anger and a general sense of being lost.

“The biggest disease today is not leprosy or cancer or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted, uncared for, and deserted by everybody.” Mother Teresa.

Loneliness is a global concern. Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, a former U.S. surgeon general recently wrote “The world is suffering from an epidemic of loneliness. If we cannot rebuild strong, authentic social connections, we will continue to splinter apart—in the workplace and in society.” HBR has a great article on this… we suggest you read it.

Business is people. Before investing further into technology invest in people. People will integrate technology, people create results and the reason for business IS people. Business is nothing more and nothing less than a series of agreements between people. By creating and managing agreements between people… business will advance…. and technology allows us to advance further and faster… it’s just not the starting point.

Focus on enhancing humanity
